Tamil Nadu has ZERO non-complying Highly Polluting Industries

Total 3768 highly polluting industries are operating In India

 7th August 2019, New Delhi: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), there are a total of 4264 highly polluting industries (17 categories of industries) in India, out of which 3768 industries are operating and 496 industries are self-closed. The number of complying and noncomplying industries is 3250 and 518 respectively. Show-cause notices and closure directions have so far been issued by CPCB to 325 and 156 non-complying units respectively.

With 807 number of operational units, Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of highly polluting industries, while Maharashtra has 460 and Gujarat 441 operational units. Out of these only 3.1% highly polluting industries were reported to be non-complying in Uttar Pradesh, while Maharashtra has 38.9% and Gujarat 22% non-complying industries. Sikkim with only 1 unit has 100% non-complying highly polluting industry, while Tamil Nadu was reported to be having 0% non-complying highly polluting industries out of 156 operational units. Tamil Nadu has also the uniqueness to have 156 units operational out of 156. Haryana reported being having 3.2% non-complying units out of 153 highly polluting industries and Odisha 2.2% out of 139 industries.
